First United Methodist Church of Mountain View, Arkansas is part of a mainline, Protestant denomination. We hold in common with many other denominations the core, orthodox beliefs of the Christian faith as stated in Scripture and reflected in the Creeds. Some of these beliefs include:
- We believe in one God in Three Persons: Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer (or, more traditionally, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
- We believe that Jesus of Nazareth was and is the Messiah promised by God and foretold through the prophets, that Jesus Christ was and is the Holy One (Son) of God.
- We believe in “salvation through faith alone” — that God’s grace cannot be earned through works, but is the free gift of God’s unmerited love offered to humankind without cost through the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
- We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
- We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross of crucifixion and was buried.
- We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Creator.
- We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return to judge the living and the dead.
These are only a few of our core beliefs. For more in-depth information on what we believe as United Methodists, please visit the following resource at the United Methodist Church official website: https://www.umc.org/en/who-we-are/what-we-believe/our-christian-roots.
